The name of a clan (gotta). It was evidently common to both brahmans and khattiyas, for we find the brahman Aññāta-Koṇḍañña belonging to it, as well as the three Buddhas Vipassī, Sikhī and Vessabhū, all khattiyas. DN.ii.3ff.
