(-˚) in phrase jīva-paṭijīvaṃ at Ja.ii.15 is to be taken as a sort of redupl. cpd. of jīva, the imper. of jīvati “live,” as greeting. We might translate “the greeting with ʻjīva’ and reciprocating it.”
